Ripple

One ripple in the lake is like a single life in the world. Even though you don't think you make a difference. you may cause a big wave in the world.
You don't know who's life you've touched. Even if you don't believe it, you have!

Nature Writing 2

As I sit here and feel the wind blow. I wish, no- I pray that it will take me away. To anywhere but here. This small town is driving me mad.

Nature Writing

As I lay back and close my eyes i feel like I'm spinning this is perhaps true to my life anyway. I feel as if I'm never going to stop. I open my eyes and see a bug, crawling without a care. No where to go no reason to be ashamed.
I envy that bug.

Poetry Form

Haiku

Birds eat all they can
Worms squirm away
Saving themselves

Tonight is..

Tonight is getting into an accident with no insurance
Tonight is another baby being born into a family with no money
Tonight is losing the only person you ever trusted to drug addiction
Tonight is spending your last dollar on a lottery ticket and losing
Tonight is losing your hand in a freak accident
Tonight is living in a cardboard box cause you didn’t finish high school
Tonight is killing your sister cause you were driving drunk
Tonight is falling into a fire and no one helps you out
Tonight is wanting, wishing but not having.

I am a house.

I am a house.
I am your house.
You grew up within my walls
I knew every secret every lie
You could examine the world through my eye.

Then one night I heard the gun shot
It rattled my walls but I kept you safe inside
I protected you as long as I could
Then you learned the truth.

You left
You didn’t want to see me
I hated it you stayed away for days
You made me feel like it was my fault.

It wasn’t me you hated but someone who once lived inside me.

Today is....

Today is losing your cousin playing hide and seek,
Today is being told to defend yourself,
Today is being thrown underwater unable to swim,
Today is being at the top afraid of heights,
Today is walking in a dark alley all alone,
Today is starting a new school,
Today is driving on the freeway for the first time,
Today is meeting someone new,
Today is talking to the person you like with nothing cool to say.

Ironic

Click! The front door was finally locked and I was done with work. James was going to walk me home. I stood out front waiting for him.

Then I heard, “Izzabella call the cops!!” I ran to where James had been. When I came around the corner I saw flames and smoke coming from an apartment building.
I took out my cell phone and dialed 911.

“My name is Izzabella I’m standing behind the J& R’s Bar and Grill there is flames and smoke coming from an apartment on the 2nd floor.”
(Pause)
“The apartment building is directly behind the bar.”
(Pause)
“A friend of mine is climbing up the side of the building into the open widow of the apartment.”
(Pause)
“Thank you.”

As soon as I hung up I ran to the side of the apartment building that James crawled into. When I got under the window and looked up James stuck his head out holding a bundle of blankets.

“It’s a baby.” he yelled.

“Are there other people in there?” I yelled back.

“I have to check.” He said back as I was climbing the side of the building to the window he was at. When I got to the window he handed me the baby. I climbed back down being extra careful. Before I made it back to the ground the fire department and ambulance had pulled up. Some of fireman climbed up the building, and some of them went in the front door. When I reached the ground I took the sheet that was covering the baby’s face and moved it off.

Her blue eyes sparkled with the light from the moon. As I was holding this precious little bundle I remembered the baby I gave up. This made the tears run down my face as if from a faucet. Then James walked up next to me and put his arm around my waist and looked at the baby

“What’s wrong?” he asked sympathetic. I tried my hardest to stop crying but I couldn’t. So I just answered tears and all.

“It’s just that I…..”
Just then the ambulance workers came over and took the baby to
“You what?” he asked confused.
“I gave up a baby when I was in high school.”
“For adoption?”
“No I had an abortion.” I said crying all over again.
“How come you didn’t have it?”
“Cause I was only 16, I had cheated on my boyfriend with this guy at a party and I was really scared.”
“Where did you say you moved from?”
“Northern Minnesota. Why?”
“Cherryville?”
“Ya why?”
Just then the police came over to ask us questions. One police officer took James to ask him questions and the other stayed to ask me questions.
“Would you be willing to take care of the baby until we have figured out the cause of the fire?” he asked slightly out of breath.
“Absolutely!!!!” I agreed quickly.
“We have taken her fingerprints to see if she has a birth record.”
“Okay…when will you know about the fire?”
“It’s a small crime scene so it shouldn’t be that hard to figure if it foul play or not.”
“Okay thank you sir. Where can I pick her up at?
“The paramedics are finishing checking her over then they will bring her over.”
“Thank you.”
The cop walked away and James walked back over.
“Their letting me keep her until they figure everything out.”
“I have some of my daughter’s old newborn stuff that you can use for her.”
“Really?! Thanks that’s so sweet.”
“As soon as they let you have her we’ll go to my house cause it might take me some time to find the stuff cause it’s all packed in the attic.”
“That’s fine.”
Then I started to check my pockets for my phone to see what time it was. I started to freak cause I couldn’t find it. James could see the panic in my eyes.
“What?”
“I can’t find my phone.”
“Did you drop it?”
“That’s it!” I said as I turned and ran toward where I had been standing when I called the cops. I picked it up and walked back over next to James. Then one of the paramedics brought the baby over too us. I let James take her. He looked so adorable rocking that little girl in his arms.
“Izzy.”
I was still daydreaming and didn’t hear him.
“Izzy.”
“What?”
“What should we call her?”
“I don’t know what do you think?”
“How about Lilly?”
“That’s so cute!”
“Ok let’s go to my house.”
We walked the four blocks to James’s house. When we got into the house James gave me Lilly and we walked upstairs to the attic. I was really surprised because it was very neat and organized.
“How come you saved Lindsey’s baby stuff?” I asked breaking the silence.
“Because my wife and I were going to have another baby.”
“Your wife?”
“Ya she left me last year.”
“Oh I’m sorry.”
“That’s alright Lindsey and I are better off without her.”
“Why did you want to know where I use to live?” I asked hoping to change the subject.
“I have one other question first. Has you last name changed since high school?”
“Ya it used to be Garcia.”
“Oh Wow!”
“What?”
“Do you remember that guy from the party, the one you slept with?”
“Ya his name was James….Williams.”
(Pause)
“Oh my goodness!”
“Ya.”
I jumped up and hugged James with Lilly still in my arms. We hugged for what felt like ten minutes. When we stopped hugging it had only been about a minute.
“Why did you move down here like two months after the party?”
“I heard that you were pregnant, I got scared and asked my parents to move down here with my aunt and her boyfriend.”
“Who did you hear I was pregnant from?”
“Everybody was talking about it. Who did you tell?”
“I told my best friend Trinity..that backstabbing..!”
“Calm down.”
“I will not she was my best friend and she told everyone my secret.”
“I’m sorry.”
“It’s not your fault.”
“No not that. For running away.”
“Oh….I guess we both did something cowardly.”
“Ya we did huh?”
“Ya.”
Lilly stated to cry.
“She probably needs to be changed.” I said feeling like I knew what I was doing.
“Hold on I know I have a diaper somewhere.”
“Do you have formula?”
“Ya. Here.” He said handing me a diaper, wipes, formula, and a bottle. I took Lilly down stairs while James carried boxes down from the attic. I sat down with Lilly and changed her. Then we laid on the couch. James brought down all the boxes. Then he set up the play pen. Lilly had fallen asleep so I set her in it. Then James and I began to go through the boxes and pick out what Lilly would need.
“Is it alright if Lilly and I stay here tonight?” I asked nervously.
“Sure.” James answered quickly
“That’s so weird that you were the guy.”
“I can’t believe you moved here too. That’s kind of ironic.”
“Ya no kidding but its pretty cool too.”
Lilly began to cry again.
“I’ll show you how to make a bottle.” James said, getting up off the couch.
“Where did you put the formula and the bottle?”
“Over there.” I said pointing to the chair next to the couch. James grabbed the bottle and formula off the chair and walked into the kitchen. I followed him after I reached in the playpen and picked up Lilly. When she and I got into the kitchen James had the water running and was measuring out the formula. I handed Lilly to James
“Do you need hot water or cold water?” I asked.
“I use hot.”
(Pause)
“You can fill it up it should be hot enough.”
I ran the bottle over cause I was watching James. He laughed at me.
“Just leave it a little from the top, so there’s enough room for the formula.”
He brought me the formula he had measured out. I put it in the bottle, and he handed me the lid.
“Now put the lid on tight and shake the bottle to mix in the formula.”
“Won’t it come out the nipple?”
“You put you finger over the nipple so it doesn’t.”
I did pretty good shaking it up but James laughed at me when I had the bottle upside down and my finger slipped so it leaked on me. James said he would feed Lilly. I watched so I would know how to do it. It’s not as hard as I thought but I’ve never been around baby’s except my little sister but my parents never let me help with her.
The last thing I remember before falling asleep is James showing me how to burp Lilly.

When I woke up James was standing at the front door holding Lilly talking to someone. I jumped up off the couch and ran over next to him. The person he was talking to was the police office that had been at the fire and told me I could keep Lilly till every thing was figured out.
“What’s going on?” I asked apprehensively.
“We found nothing to identify the fingerprints of the baby. I’ve been informed by social services that the two of you may keep her.”
“How can we make a birth record for her?”
“If you bring her down to the station we have people that can estimate her birth date and they we will take you to the courthouse and have birth records made.”
“Thank you very much sir. We’ll get a diaper bag together and be right down there”
Then the police officer left James gave me Lilly and began to pack a diaper bag. It was taking him a long time so I decided to go see what was going on. I walked into the living room and James was on one knee.
“God has given us another chance and I want to do it right this time. Will you marry me?”
“Yes I will”
